Quick Reading for Today
by Jose NazarioJust a few items that popped into my reading list this morning:
- The Summer Storm, a short piece on what a Storm infected host did. From Symantec’s blog. ” Seventy-seven megabytes of network traffic, 356 spam emails sent and 10,082 unique IP addresses contacted. All in just under 60 minutes.”
- The Georgia attacks are still on some of our minds, even if the press has moved on. The “Who did it?” question remains, with some folks calling it state-sponsored and others urging caution. Some folks are debating if it was a cyber-war or just a pedestrian attack that had an interesting target. Thoughts on the Russia vs Georgia Cyber War from the SANS ISC is a good read. Very good commentary is available in Misunderstanding cyberwar by Ethan Zuckerman. Finally have a look at Georgia conflict may mean the birth of modern cyber-warfare by Richard Koman. As for all of the political rhetoric and all of the geopolitical punditry, I suggest you look at Department of “Huh?” by Brad DeLong. He looks at the op-ed pieces going back and forth and reviews them critically, and I think he nails it all too well. It’s too early to tell quite what this was.
And now back to my regular day.
